1. Own Your Power

  • Be unapologetic about your achievements.

  • Speak up in meetings and share your ideas.

  • Celebrate your wins, even if others don’t.


2. Set Boundaries

The workplace may demand a lot, but it’s essential to protect your time and energy.


  • Learn to say no to tasks that don’t align with your goals or stretch you too thin.

  • Prioritize self-care, even during busy periods.

  • Communicate your boundaries clearly and confidently.


3. Find Your Tribe

Building a supportive network of mentors, allies, and peers can make all the difference.


  • Seek out other Black women in your industry or workplace.

  • Join professional organizations like the National Coalition of 100 Black Women or local affinity groups.

  • Look for mentors who understand your journey and can provide guidance.


4. Address Microaggressions with Grace

Microaggressions can be exhausting, but addressing them thoughtfully can create teachable moments.


  • Use “I” statements to express your feelings: “I felt uncomfortable when you said…”

  • Redirect the conversation to educate: “Actually, Black hair comes in many textures. Let me explain…”

  • If you feel unsafe or unsupported, document incidents and report them to HR.


5. Advocate for Yourself

Don’t wait for others to recognize your worth—advocate for your own growth and opportunities.
